If you ever get the chance.
You should go to Louisiana.
And I don't mean just the big places like New Orleans or Baton Rouge.
Take highway 90 down towards the water.
MMMM the little towns you will run through are awesome.
And food like you ain't never had in yo mouth before!
In New Iberia there is a 'plate lunch' diner.
Therriots (say terry-o's when you ask where it is).
Gumbo.
MMMMM.
Fried Chicken.
Rice Dressing.
I ate fat while I was there, and lost weight!
And I don't normally tout gas station food... but in Louisiana food is a huge part of the culture. Some of the best fried shrimp I have ever put in my mouth I got at a gas station.
And speakin of shrimp... can someone PLEASE tell me why we, as consumers allow the importation of foreign seafood from Asia? Now don't get me wrong, I ain't hatin on the Asian countries, just confused that our government would prefer to subsidize our Shrimp Guys in the Gulf with Welfare instead of providing them a means of getting their product on the shelf. You have not had shrimp until you have had it FRESH.
Like on Wednesday you call up your Shrimp Guy (yes I had a guy). You tell him how many pounds you want, what size you want, what day you want it.
Between 3 - 5 am he is casting out his nets. by 9 am he is calling you to come get your shrimp. Get your treasure home & clean 'em & be eatin FRESH shrimp cocktail.... shish kabobs.... grilled shrimp....
I learned some new recipes while there. Be nice kiddies & I just might share. :)
